University Library is one of the most important catalysts for the development of faculty members, Research Scholars and Students in education. The primary aim of a Library is to impart specialized and advanced knowledge to students and enable them to acquire competence and skills in various fields of human activity meant for all round social progress and enrichment of human life.
The University Library of Dr.MGR Educational & Research Institute extends the academic research supports at all level and all stages of learning and teaching of the readers. It is supported by different services. The Central Library is located at the Maduravoyal Campus in VOC Block third Floor. The Library has pioneered new services and changed the profile of what a library can do to support the Innovation. We are conceiving new ideas that results in global, collaborative and interdisciplinary world for knowledge sharing.

Library Committee
Library Committee is the advisory body that has been formed for the smooth functioning of the Library in coordination with the Faculty members. The policy matters on which they make recommendations would include finalization of Library annual budget, sub-allocation of Library budget to different categories of expenditure like, books, journals required by Faculty and student requirement. The Library Committee reviews and recommends policies for the Library, with particular attention to the collection budget and to the distribution of resources among academic divisions and units. The Library Committee provides a channel of communication between the Library and the faculty, staff, and students.
Functions
- Formulate knowledge and information archiving and management policy at the Institute.
- Formulate various policies related to library like, collection development, procurement, space etc.
- To provide guidelines on Library working Hours.
- All books and Journals subscribed for the Library need to be scrutinized by the Committee.
- Proposal of Library Budget for the Department of all Faculty.
- Proposal of library vision, strategy document.
- Policy for eliminating the damaged books and loss of library documents due to theft, natural calamity is to be put up after consideration by the Library Committee.
- Staff requirements for the Library are to be worked out and put up by the Library Committee.
- Procurement of equipment costing more than 1 Lakh will be scrutinized by L.C. before it is sent to Vice- Chancellor for approval.

Procurement of Learning Resources
- Library Advisory Committee recommend the books to be procured for their academic courses and research.
- All faculty proposal of procurement will be routed through Library Advisory Committee.
- The ordering is done by the Procurement Department.. The Purchase Order with standard terms and conditions will be issued by the Librarian.
